Hello out there!
In the past week I
finally managed to finish setting up my own little creative space. It all
started quite a while ago, when I went to the thrift shop to get some old
furniture. I went home with a dresser, a secretary, 3 pieces of wood, and 2
framed pictures, which I only got because I wanted the frames.
I’m splitting this
up into 2 parts, otherwise this will take forever to read.
So here we go, starting with all of the before refurbishment pictures:
How I did it: So here we go, starting with all of the before refurbishment pictures:
I got a sander and chalk paint and paint brush from a cute little shabby chic store in my hometown (link below). My mom and I both just love it. A lot of pretty things, some gooood (and I mean good) coffee, all located in an old tiny chapel, how cool is that?
First, I removed the old wood lacquer with the sander to reveal the beautiful wood underneath. I was really surprised how light the wood was. Working with this old, durable piece of furniture was very pleasing. It felt so different compared to setting up modern (and rather low cost) furniture.
I'm using it for storage and as a TV stand. I learned that I really like creating things. The pleasing feeling, when you can look at what you made with your own hands (more or less). Amazing!
From the same store I got the paint, I also got a nice little extra
The rusty look just
perfectly rounds up the style of this dresser.
Now to my secretary.
The work was the same, except I used about 3 to 4 layers of paint and I also
got a light blue paint to add a bit color to it. It now functions as my
creative space. I store all my supplies for my journals, planner, my colored pencils,
some goods for decorating, and of course all of my crochet yarn, wool, hooks
etc.! I am very happy with the result and I can only recommend you to try this
yourself!
So, this was it for
this part. If you would like to find out, what happened to this picture frame,
and more, come back for the second part!
PS: yes, I made
that unicorn myself, yes I do have journals and a gorgeous Heidi Swapp planner.
I’m planning on making posts on those things as well.
